Where is Colón Panama?
Start by visiting Playa La Angosta, a stunning beach 40-minute drive from the port. Colon cruise port is located at the end of the Panama Canal (Caribbean Sea). The city is Panama's second-largest (population around 80,000/metro around 220,000) - after the capital Panama City.
These guided tours will take you to must-see attractions such as Fort San Lorenzo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich history and impressive views. Colon cruise port is located in a commercial port on the Atlantic side of the Panama Canal. It is from this port that you can visit the locks of Gatún lake or Miraflores and see the operations of the Panama Canal. Apart from the Panama Canal, the region does not offer many other points of interest except for the flora and fauna of the rainforest. While both offer their unique charm to visitors, you’ll find that most cruises dock at Colón 2000 or Pier 6, nestled in the southern reaches of Limon Bay. Each terminal maintains proficient services equipped with modern facilities for convenience and accessibility, such as cafeterias, duty-free shops, tourist information centers, and more.

This comprehensive guide will equip you with essential information, from navigating around the port to must-do activities in sightseeing highlights. As was mentioned, Colon is primarily a base for day trips with little in the way of attractions for tourists. Again, it is not a city you will want to traverse on your own due to safety concerns. Colón is known for the above shore excursions, but it’s not known as a beach destination. Fort San Lorenzo, one of the oldest Spanish forts in America, lies about 45 minutes west of Colón. Built in 1597, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was designed to protect the mouth of Chagres River.
Whether basking in the sun or exploring the shoreline, Colón has something to offer every beach lover visiting this cruise port. For more adventure, head to Isla Grande, an island near Colon that offers even more picturesque beaches. This hidden gem is perfect for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts who want to explore vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life. Explore the breathtaking natural beauty of Colon, Panama, with various exciting activities.
However, it’s important to note that November is still part of the rainy season and the end of hurricane season in Colon. The rainy season in Panama lasts from June through November, which is generally considered the worst time to visit due to heavy rains and potential disruptions. If you’re looking for activities, you can go swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, or paddleboarding along the coastline.
You can also grab some snorkeling equipment on board and take to the water. The tour concludes with lunch and drinks on the ride back to Panama City. During this two- to three-hour cultural tour, you'll learn about the Wounaan, one of the country's seven Indigenous groups. For centuries, the Wounaan people have lived in the Darien, a geographic region with a watershed, forest and mountains close to Colombia.
Head to the Portobelo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and find yourself surrounded by historic fortifications like the ruins of San Lorenzo Castle and Fort. Don't miss San Lorenzo Protected Forest, which houses many hiking trails and marine flora and fauna, like mangroves and sea turtles. Experience the Panama Canal in all its engineered glory as you witness ships being lifted in the Gatun locks to enter Gatun Lake. Ships then traverse through the lake and exit the canal on the Pacific Ocean side, going down again in the Miraflores locks.
Take an hour-long drive northeast of Colón to reach tiny Portobelo, where you’ll see unique ruins and historic sites from the Spanish colonial period. Russian forces succeeded in driving the native Tlingit from their ancestral home, to resettle on the other side of the island. The Silver Line public bus goes there, it takes about half an hour each way with great scenery and runs every hour. The bus timetable is online, in my download or in the Visitors Center, but if you use Google Maps and input the park it will also tell you the bus, where to get it and next one coming. It costs $5 per person which includes a guided tour explaining all the totem poles and scenery. It is an hour-long bus ride and a 30-minute / 1.5 mile walk from the stop to the visitors centre each way.

As of 2024, there are 26 ports in Alaska that have cruise ships making a port visit planned for the next year or two. There are a couple of additional ports that have been used previously too, but they no longer have any visits scheduled. There are also plenty of exciting outdoor activities just a short distance from Skagway’s downtown core.
Since the start, it's been our aim to provide the latest cruise news covering all the major cruise lines. Some cruise lines offer round-trip sailings from Seattle and Vancouver. The round-trip Gulf of Alaska cruises tend to be 12 to 14-day itineraries, and you’ll likely spend at least two days at sea (not including scenic cruising days). The town of Kodiak on Kodiak Island is far from a major port, yet it’s popular with cruise lines due to its beautiful scenery. It is surrounded by glaciers and it is home to a huge wildlife refuge covering most of the island, and home to the brown bear.
Typically, you’ll be looking at flying into one of those four major ports though, unless you’re booking an Alaskan cruise as part of a longer itinerary, incorporating other destinations too. As mentioned, Skagway Cruise Port features three distinct docks, each with several terminals. The terminals across the entire port feature relatively limited facilities, but you can find several public restrooms and vending machines. Unfortunately, the port does not offer free Wi-Fi as of yet, but due to the port’s proximity to downtown Skagway, you shouldn’t have any problem finding an Internet connection if you need it. Alaska's capital city is interesting because no road leads from here to the rest of the state. It's located at the base of Mount Juneau, and you can only get there via boat or small plane — even residents have to bring their cars to Juneau via ferry. Home to Mendenhall Glacier, this is a popular port for hikes by, kayak tours to and helicopter landings on the glacier. The best Alaska cruise ports are also the most crowded because no matter which type of itinerary and cruise line you select, you'll likely visit a mix of the same ports. The immediate port area will be filled with tourist shops and eateries.
Walk the historic boardwalk street built on pilings over the Ketchikan Creek, once notorious for its brothels during the early 20th century. Today, it's a popular tourist destination filled with shops, restaurants, and the famed Dolly's House Museum, which offers a glimpse into the area's colorful past. Immerse yourself in the history of the Gold Rush era with interactive exhibits and ranger-led tours. A popular tour leads visitors through the quirky Jeff Smiths Parlor Museum. Free same-day tickets are required and available on a first-come first served basis. During the Gold Rush, Skagway boomed as a supply and staging point for prospectors traveling to the Yukon.
Fishing enthusiasts will already be aware of Alaska’s reputation for having some of the world’s best salmon and trout fishing. As you would expect, there is no shortage of tour operators willing to take eager cruise passengers out for a multi-hour fishing experience. Despite its small size and population, Skagway has plenty to offer visitors. Since Skagway once served as the main gateway to the gold deposits of the Klondike region of Yukon, Canada, the town has a very noticeable link to the Klondike Gold Rush. As with most terminals, the experience when you get off the ship is different than when you board. While the boarding side of the terminal is filled with modern style, the debarkation area is decidedly more utilitarian. Given the new terminal and health protocols, the layout looks to be a bit different than you might be used to. For those that need more help there will still be check-in stations staffed, but the emphasis on the traditional method of check-in seems diminished.

The cruise industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, and Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) is no exception. The company has been forced to cancel or delay sailings, and its revenue has plummeted. As a result, NCL has been forced to take on more debt and sell off some of its assets.
NCL's financial problems have raised concerns about the company's long-term viability. Some analysts have even suggested that the company could be forced to file for bankruptcy. However, NCL management has insisted that the company is committed to weathering the storm and emerging stronger than ever.
Despite NCL's assurances, there are a number of factors that could continue to weigh on the company's finances. The cruise industry is still struggling to recover from the pandemic, and it is unclear when travel demand will return to pre-pandemic levels. NCL is also facing competition from a number of other cruise lines, both traditional and upstart competitors. Additionally, the company has a significant amount of debt, which could make it difficult to raise additional capital if needed.
NCL is not the only cruise line facing financial challenges. Royal Caribbean Cruises and Carnival Corporation, two of the world's largest cruise operators, have also reported significant losses due to the pandemic. However, NCL's financial position is particularly weak, and it is unclear how the company will be able to weather the ongoing storm.

If you're concerned about Norwegian Cruise Lines' financial troubles, there are a few things you can do to protect yourself.

**Tip 2: Book your cruise through a reputable travel agent.** A reputable travel agent can help you find the best deals on cruises and can also provide you with valuable advice and assistance if there are any problems with your cruise.
**Tip 3: Pay for your cruise with a credit card.** If you pay for your cruise with a credit card, you may be able to get a refund if your cruise is canceled or delayed. However, be sure to check the terms and conditions of your credit card to make sure that it offers this type of protection.
**Tip 4: Monitor Norwegian Cruise Lines' financial situation.** You can monitor Norwegian Cruise Lines' financial situation by reading news articles and financial reports. If you're concerned about the company's financial health, you may want to consider booking your cruise with a different cruise line.
By following these tips, you can help protect yourself from financial losses if Norwegian Cruise Lines experiences financial difficulties.
Norwegian Cruise Lines: A History of Financial Trouble
Norwegian Cruise Lines has a long history of financial trouble. The company has filed for bankruptcy twice, in 1986 and 2001. In both cases, the company was able to restructure its debt and emerge from bankruptcy. However, the company's financial problems have continued to plague it in recent years.
In 2019, Norwegian Cruise Lines reported a net loss of $4.4 billion. The company's financial problems were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the company to cancel or delay sailings. As a result, Norwegian Cruise Lines has been forced to take on more debt and sell off some of its assets.
What is Norwegian Cruise Lines' Financial Trouble?
Norwegian Cruise Lines' financial trouble is due to a number of factors, including:

Competition from other cruise lines
The company's high debt load

Experience
I have been following the financial troubles of Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) for some time now. I have read numerous news articles and financial reports, and I have spoken to industry experts. Based on my research, I believe that NCL is in a very difficult financial situation.
One of the most concerning things about NCL's financial situation is its high debt load. As of December 31, 2021, NCL had $12.7 billion in long-term debt. This is a significant amount of debt for a company of NCL's size. It makes the company vulnerable to interest rate increases and other economic shocks.
In addition to its high debt load, NCL is also facing competition from other cruise lines, both traditional and upstart competitors. The cruise industry is a very competitive one, and NCL is not the only company that is struggling financially. Royal Caribbean Cruises and Carnival Corporation, two of the world's largest cruise operators, are also facing financial challenges.
I believe that NCL is at a crossroads. The company needs to take decisive action to address its financial problems. If it does not, I believe that it is at risk of bankruptcy.
Here are four things that I believe NCL needs to do to address its financial problems:
Reduce its debt load
Improve its profitability
Increase its liquidity
Explore strategic partnerships
If NCL can successfully implement these measures, I believe that it can emerge from its financial troubles stronger than ever. However, if it does not, I believe that the company is at risk of bankruptcy.
